Kane County Clerk's tips on getting married during the holidays

Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham wishes to provide information to couples who are seeking to get married during the holiday season.

Couples wishing to get married in Kane County must apply for a marriage license prior to getting married.

In order to apply for a marriage license, couples must appear together at the Kane County Clerk's Office, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Bldg. B, Geneva, or at the Aurora satellite office, 15 E. Downer Place, Aurora. There, couples can present valid identification including proof of age, complete and sign the marriage license application, and pay the $32 application fee in cash only.

The clerk's office processes applications for marriage licenses from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing to allow enough time to complete an application.

Marriage licenses are issued to the couple after the application is completed in the clerk's office. Licenses are valid beginning the following calendar day after being issued and are valid for 60 days.

Couples who wish to get married in a courthouse ceremony can go to either the Kane County Courthouse at 100 S. Third St., Geneva or the Kane County Judicial Center, 37W777 Route 38, St. Charles.

Regular hours for marriage ceremonies are 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 1:30 to 4 p.m. Friday. Couples do not need to make an appointment as marriages are performed on a first come, first served basis.

However, the courts will be closing early Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, and the hours for marriage ceremonies will be from 10 a.m. to noon.
