Wheeling gets past Leyden
Wheeling's girls basketball team raised its record to 6-7 with a 45-36 nonconference win over visiting Leyden on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats, who topped Buffalo Grove less than 24 hours earlier in a Mid-Suburban East game, were led by Nosa Igiehon (14 points), Morgan Collar (9) and Chloe Drozdz (9), who had a pair of 3-pointers.
Evelyn Abundes and Yaritza Frias paced Leyden (5-3) with 9 points.
Fremd 37, Oswego East 34: Fremd (13-0) led 20-17 at half and held on for the nonconference win over visiting Oswego East (5-7).
Leading the way were freshman Brianna Wooldridge (13 points, 5 rebounds), junior Olivia Hill (9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals) and junior Emily Klaczek (7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists).
St. Viator 48, Wheaton St. Francis 15: The visiting Lions improved to 10-3 as freshman Joy Bergstrom tossed home a game-high 19 points with 9 rebounds in the nonconference game.
Emma Morrisey added 9 points with 3 steals and Natalie Krause collected 8 points with 2 rebounds for the Lions.
Christian Liberty 57, Illinois Lutheran 35: Sophomore guard Megan Ng led host Christian Liberty (6-2) in the nonconference win with 17 points. Teammates Julia Wolke and Melissa Castro each chipped in 9 points.
