Grant from Stand Up Desk Store Creates Healthier Workspace at North Suburban YMCA

The North Suburban YMCA recently received a grant from Stand Up Desk Store, enabling the Y to equip its conference room with modular tables and ergonomic sit/stand chairs to better serve the many functions of the room. Volunteers from the company personally came out and donated their time and efforts to transform the room into a modern, transformable workspace. Their signature "stand-up crank adjustable desks" and "sit-to-stand drafting" chairs are just a couple of new elements to the room. The new furniture, valued at approximately $5,000, will promote a healthier environment for Y staff, volunteers, and others who use the conference room.

"The new furniture is truly a step into the future for the Y," enthuses Kim Nyren, NSYMCA Director of Community Investment. "Stand Up Desk Store really understood our needs for the room. It was important that the furniture accommodate an upscale meeting, while still giving us the ability to change the room into a classroom for our S.T.E.A.M. programs. The chairs especially are designed to work for all ages, with their motion stools being a favorite amongst our active kids."

Elesha Garza, the brand manager from Stand Up Desk Store, was one of the many volunteers who supported the project. The company plans to use the room transformation as a case study for their own website and testimonials.

"In addition to offering ergonomic workspace products that enhance health, wellbeing, and productivity, a core mission of Stand Up Desk Store is to give back to our community," commented Garza. "The North Suburban YMCA has been serving our friends and neighbors for more than 50 years, so when the opportunity came up to support their programs through donations and volunteer work, we jumped at the chance. As such, we are proud to provide a room's worth of modern, flexible furniture that will benefit employees and members for many years to come."

The new conference room will continue to support the NSYMCA's 50th Anniversary Initiatives like S.T.E.A.M. and youth education opportunities. Other initiatives include: "2 Seconds 2 Long," a children's swim safety partnership with local schools; the new Diabetes Prevention program; the Enhance®Fitness Arthritis Management program; Social Responsibility projects; and other goals to advance the Y for the next 50 years.
