As a child, growing up - I was fortunate to be in a family that supported creativity and the arts. In first -grade we "wrote and illustrated a book." I was one of 5 selected as a winner of this "art contest."
My education included taking classes at the Cleveland Art Institute and graduating from the Cooper School of Art, where I majored in photography and communications design, with a heavy emphasis on painting. My senior project was a photo documentation of the nation's first art therapy program. There I was deeply impressed with the work of patients who painted through their recovery or disabilities. My photography has been published in People Magazine, First for Women, the Miami Herald and various trade and online magazines.
Career and family changed my professional path many times - although art and creativity is an ongoing thread. In recent years my art focus has been on illustrating: murals, designing product art, custom coloring books, children's books, stationery and painting. I was one of six juried artists selected for Kohl Children's Museums' 30th Anniversary event. I have taught children's art a variety of venues and events including the Glenview Public Library and the Chicago Children's Museum at Navy Pier. Children being encouraged to draw and paint by hand is critical to their wellbeing and I support that mission.
My love of art leans to modern, impressionism and contemporary, where the merger of ideas, breaking down of colors, and shapes provokes thought and conversation. My current works in painting are done in abstract expressionism, an art-form that started in the 1940's. My interpretation of process-action based are my color / print studies that include ink, printing, and texture.
This show features prints of my hand-drawn illustrations.
