Democrats' election win: The Blue Death
Clearly, Illinois has been overrun by Democrats, as surely as 14th century Europe was gripped by bubonic plague.
In this last election, Republican state legislators and Congressmen alike fell like so many scarecrows in a windstorm. Pritzker's millions and Madigan's black magic were too much for the people to resist - the people in the city and suburbs who, inundated with yard signs and campaign flyers and television and radio ads, convinced themselves that, prosperity be damned, more government was what they sorely needed.
And so, shortly, that is precisely what we will get. In Madigan's caldron, this is what's cooking: A progressive income tax, designed to "soak" the rich, will be crafted in the General Assembly. Wily semanticists, trained in medieval hairsplitting, will be recruited to circumvent the constitutional prohibition against such a system.
Another ploy to snatch your money in the works is a road tax based on the number of miles you drive. Our license plates ought to sport a new nickname: "Venezuela-on-the-Mississippi."
The scale of this coming confiscation is breathtaking, but it shrinks in comparison to the breadth of stupidity manifest in Illinois' politics.
"We will create jobs and encourage entrepreneurship!" Pritzker promised in his victory speech. How? By taxing businesses and consumers to the bone?
This is taxation without remediation. With Democrats as the people's representatives, we are goners, and deservedly so.
