Huntley man who had child porn sentenced to 4 years in prison
A 42-year-old Huntley man was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to felony child pornography possession.
Martin I. Vilchis-Caralampio was arrested in early March on charges he took video of a girl who was getting ready to shower, McHenry County prosecutors said.
Vilchis-Caralampio was charged with six felonies, the most severe being a charge that accused him of recording and producing child pornography, which carries a punishment of six to 30 years in prison with no chance of probation.
In a plea agreement accepted by Judge James Cowlin, Vilchis-Caralampio pleaded guilty to one count of felony child pornography possession, which carried a prison term ranging from two to five years, in exchange for prosecutors' dismissing the remaining charges.
Under the agreement, Vilchis-Caralampio must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life after his prison term is completed. Under state law, he can have his sentence halved for good behavior.
Vilchis-Caralampio also gets credit for about eight months served at the McHenry County jail, where he was held while the case was pending, records show. He also must pay $1,875 in court fines and fees.
Days after his arrest, Vilchis-Caralampio's wife filed for a divorce, which was granted in June, court records show.
