How to help Mount Prospect families in need

Mount Prospect's Human Services Department is seeking donations to help it spread some holiday cheer to families in need of assistance.

Donations of food items can be brought to the department on the second floor of village hall, 50 S. Emerson St., by Friday, Nov. 16, for the Thanksgiving program. Items most needed include canned fruit/fruit cups; instant mashed potatoes; canned beef stew; chicken & dumpling; crackers; canned meats, spam, etc.; jam & jelly; canned ravioli and spaghetti; gluten-free items; cereal; sugar-free items; and Hamburger Helper.

Please do not donate cans larger than 32 ounces or packages larger than 5 pounds.

The department will hold a holiday distribution for the Thanksgiving holiday on Nov. 19, for residents who have been approved for the program. Department social workers or case workers meet with residents to determine the family's eligibility for the program.

Donations for the Christmas program should be received at the same location no later than Friday, Dec. 14.
