Hawthorn Middle School South Students Thank Veterans

World War II veteran Joseph Gray, 96, shakes the hand of Erick Herrera, president of the student council at Hawthorn Middle School South at the school's annual Veterans' Day Breakfast.

Approximately 60 veterans attended the event, which included performances by Middle School South's chorus, orchestra and band. After the performances, student council members and eighth-grade social studies students had the unique opportunity to talk at length with the veterans about their service.
