Hey Millennials, let's go vote.

Here's the deal: we all need to vote this November. Yes, even you. First of all, let's clear things up:

• The Midterms are super important because you can influence your own community. This year we're voting for Governor, Congress, State Reps, and several local offices.

• Voting doesn't have to be a chore. You can vote early, or request a mail in ballot. Go to www.Dupageco.org/elections/Voting to check out your options.

It sounds cheesy, but together, we can make a difference. Millennials make up half of the eligible voting population, but in 2016, only 19 percent of voters aged 18-29 actually did vote, according to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Engagement. We have a growing number of us that can make a difference on the issues that matter to us - like student loan debt forgiveness or health care. We have to speak out on our own behalf.

Our voice can be our vote. It's important for us to learn how we will be impacted by these issues today and in the future. It's up to us to help shape what the future is going to look like - because we're going to be the ones living in it.

Let's get educated, and get to the polls. There's so much information at our fingertips - check your local newspapers for coverage on local candidates and policies. For nonpartisan coverage on everything you need to know before the election, the League of Women Voters (not just for women) in Illinois has a great website with candidate views, sample ballots, and more for you to explore. Check it out at Illinoisvoterguide.org.

OK, team, get registered, study up and go vote. I'll see you at the polls.
