Veteran Island Lake cop promoted

A veteran Island Lake police officer has been promoted to sergeant, officials announced. Detective Robert S. Blitek, who joined the department in 2011, got his stripes during a public meeting last week. Blitek received a village Life Saving Award last year for helping to rescue a suicidal woman. He's also a member of the McHenry County Major Accident Investigation Assistance Team.
