Dist. 200 referendum deserves support

I support the District 200 Board of Education decision to move ahead with the construction of a new Jefferson Early Childhood Education Center. I have personally toured the current Jefferson facility and attended events there. What I have seen is a building that has many significant deficiencies, is close to the end of its useful life for any use, and is ill suited to its current, most important use.

After careful consideration of the alternatives, the board has identified a way forward to build a new facility, proven to be successful elsewhere, that will get the job done without a tax increase. The advantages to replacing this building are manifold, not the least of which is the vastly improved ability to meet the needs of the students who attend, especially those with disabilities.

From a personal standpoint, while Mary and I no longer have children in district schools, we are grateful for the excellent education our kids received, and we willingly accept the responsibility to "play it forward" by supporting a continued high quality learning environment for coming generations.

From a community standpoint, investment in our schools pays significant dividends for the quality of life in our communities, as well as enhances property values for when the time comes to pass our homes on to that next young family.

Please consider supporting the referendum for a new Jefferson. It's the right thing to do.
