The Holmstad celebrates Town Center's 10th anniversary

Residents and the Batavia community will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of The Holmstad's Town Center, which was completed and opened in October 2008.

The Town Center is considered the hub of the senior living community, which includes multiple spaces for residents, including a creative arts center, fitness center, game center, communications center and a multipurpose room.

"The Town Center not only provides spaces where our residents take advantage of the many activities that are offered at our community, it is also where organizations from the greater community are able to utilize our space as well," said Amanda Gosnell, The Holmstad executive director.

"Many civic groups come here regularly for their meetings, and we're happy to provide them a space to do so."

To mark the occasion of the Town Center anniversary, The Holmstad has a number of activities planned for residents during the week of Oct. 22, with two events in particular that will showcase the community.

From 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, the Taste of the Holmstad will feature displays in all areas of the Town Center for individuals to tour and see firsthand the lifestyle it provides. Then, at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, Batavia Mayor Jeffery Schielke will give a presentation on the history of Batavia and also a bit more about the history of The Holmstad.

The presentation will be followed by an 11:30 a.m. ribbon cutting with the Batavia Chamber of Commerce for a new "Walk in Love."

The "Walk in Love" is a fundraiser for the Benevolent Care Fund at The Holmstad in which engraved tribute pavers can be purchased to create a lasting tribute to loved ones. The pavers will be installed in the courtyard just outside of the Town Center. The Benevolent Care Fund is used for Holmstad residents who, through no fault of their own, outlive their resources, so they may continue to live at the community.
