Girls volleyball: Lakes nets NLCC championship outright
Keelan Bell pounded 8 kills, Devinn Bell dished out 25 assists, and Lakes' girls volleyball team clinched the Northern Lake County Conference championship outright by beating host Grayslake North 26-17, 25-12 on Thursday night.
The Eagles, who finish the regular season with a 23-7 record, went 7-0 in the NLCC.
Ashley Smith added 5 kills and 5 aces for Lakes. Abby Vanderwall had 13 digs and 2 aces, Kelli Rettig contributed 4 kills, 4 aces and 6 digs, and Sara Smith had 3 kills.
Grayslake North (17-18), which set the school record for wins last weekend, finished 5-2 in the NLCC.
Wauconda d. Antioch: Erika Kraml had 8 kills and 7 digs, as the visiting Bulldogs won the Northern Lake County Conference finale 25-23, 26-24.
Savannah Johnson tallied 9 assists, 8 digs, 2 kills and 2 aces for Wauconda (10-23, 4-3). Wauconda also got contributions from Riley Aldrich (3 aces, 2 kills), Raquel Acosta (12 digs), Emily Johnson (3 blocks) and Nicole Callahan (4 kills).
Antioch (15-18-1, 3-4) was led by Grace Weber's 2 aces, 5 kills and 2 blocks. Katie Vilardi had 1 ace, 7 assists and 4 digs for the Sequoits, and Rachel Phillips delivered 1 ace, 4 kills and 1 block.
Grayslake Central d. Grant: Amber Moser had 12 kills and 6 digs, Elisa Koshy collected 22 assists, 2 kills, 4 aces and 2 blocks, and the visiting Rams won 25-17, 25-19 to complete Northern Lake County Conference play.
Grayslake Central finishes the regular season at 22-13 and went 6-1 in the NLCC (second place). The Rams' other contributors included Kate Bullman (4 kills, 3 blocks, 1 ace), Abby Marassa (17 digs, 2 aces) and Cassidy Beshel (2 kills, 1 ace).
"Very proud of the way our girls played as a team tonight and got the win on the road against a strong Grant team," Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. "We played well at all aspects of the game tonight, and this is a good win as we head into regionals next week."
Libertyville d. Zion-Benton: On Wednesday night, the visiting Wildcats won the North Suburban Conference finale 25-20, 25-16.
Libertyville improved to 19-16 and finished 6-1 in the NSC, alone in second place behind Stevenson.
