North Suburban YMCA VP Receives Statewide Y Leadership Award

Kathy Fielding, Vice President of Membership Engagement, Marketing & Programs at the North Suburban YMCA, has been honored by the YMCA Illinois State Alliance for her accomplishments and leadership. Fielding received the 2018 Tom Stoll Award, presented to "a Y professional on the ascending edge of service who has developed outstanding executive or operational leadership and loyalty," at the Alliance's Illinois Fall Staff Rally in Normal, Illinois on September 28.

An NSYMCA employee since 2011, Kathy Fielding began her Y career as a front desk customer service representative. She now oversees the Y's efforts in membership, marketing, and all programming, including summer day camp, youth afterschool care, wellness, performing and visual arts, special needs, and aquatics. She also has spearheaded a number of initiatives connected to the NSYMCA's 50th anniversary, from the "Two Seconds Too Long" drowning prevention program for children to the new Enhance®Fitness arthritis management class and upcoming Diabetes Prevention Program for adults.

Under Fielding's watch, the NSYMCA's program participation has grown significantly, with the summer camp expanding by almost 4000 units over the previous year. Her marketing efforts helped the NSYMCA secure multiple honors in 22nd Century Media's North Shore Choice Awards as well as Make It Better's "Best of" Awards.

NSYMCA President/CEO Howard Schultz commended Fielding's dedication when presenting the award to her at the Fall Staff Rally. "She has boundless energy, infectious enthusiasm, and is a person of the highest integrity," said Schultz. "She is not afraid to speak up when she disagrees with a decision or course of action, and always gives me her honest opinion. Even if we disagree, she is loyal and forthright, and is totally focused on the mission of the Y."

The local community is invited to congratulate Fielding at the NSYMCA's Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 11 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will also feature the installation of new Board members and officers, recognition of past Board chairs and longtime Y staff members, and the dedication of a 50th Anniversary time capsule to be opened at the NSYMCA's centennial in 2068.
