Girls volleyball: Leyden third at IMSA

Leyden's girls volleyball team took third place on Saturday at the 12-team Illinois Math & Science Academy Invite.

The Eagles went 3-2 with two wins over Westmont and one against Serena. They dropped a two-set decision to McHenry and three-set match to the host school.

Leading coach Danielle Kowalkowski's Leyden team in the five matches were senior outside hitter Destiny Corral (44 kills, 7 aces), senior libero Bea Verin (60 digs, 12 aces), junior middle hitter Kinga Nowaczyk (12 kills, 15 blocks), junior right side Summer Mohammad (14 kills) and junior setter Jocelyn Escamilla (74 assists, 4 kills, 8 aces).
