Fox Valley Food For Health gets generous donation from State Street Jewelers for Harvest Moon Dance

For the second year in a row, State Street Jewelers is supporting Fox Valley Food For Health by designing and hand crafting a unique necklace pendant which will be awarded to one lucky winner at the "Harvest Moon Dance."

"We are happy to support Fox Valley Food For Health with this theme of the moon pendant. We'll keep the theme and change the design each year," said State Street Jewelers spokesperson Martha Sanchez, whose granddaughter is one of Fox Valley Food For Health teen chefs.

Custom jeweler and designer Isaac Kornhauser of Cary was commissioned to create something unique.

Kornhauser has a particular interest in supporting Fox Valley Food for Health as a cancer survivor himself. "I had a pain in my side that got worse with a cough". After many tests and biopsies, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July 2017. "I caught it early" he says with a smile.

The last year was difficult. After surgery and some complications, Kornhauser had to feed himself via a tube for four months.

Additionally, the side effects of chemotherapy resulted in neuropathy-a numbness in his fingertips. "It was hard to work."

A year later, Mr. Kornhauser has returned to State Street Jewelers and is excited to be a part of Fox Valley Food for Health's fundraiser.

"It's very cool. And getting the kids involved is just great." And the best news, is that he is in remission. "Not very many people can say they HAD pancreatic cancer. I feel pretty lucky about that."

Kornhauser's one-of-a-kind moon pendant was created using a combination of new and old techniques. Computer-aided design images were used for design but Kornhauser's 44 years of experience as a jeweler give the piece a special quality.

Made of white and yellow gold, the crescent moon beams from a blue vitreous glass enameled background glittering with three diamond stars.

The moon pedant will be on display at State Street Jewelers beginning in October where one can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win.

Raffle tickets begin at $20 and will be sold up to and at The Harvest Moon Dance. Winner does not need to be present.

The "Harvest Moon Dance" will take place from 6 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Eagle Brook Country Club, 2288 Fargo Blvd. in Geneva.

Entertainment will be provided by Otto Music and the evening includes an open bar, dinner, raffles, and both a live and silent auctions.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from the Fox Valley Food for Health teen chefs talk about how volunteering has impacted their lives, as well as a client testimonial. Tickets are $150 person and are available for purchase at foxvalleyfoodforhealth.org/harvestmoondance.
