Career fair for students with special needs Sept. 25

Local school districts will partner for the 10th annual Directions College and Career Fair for students with special needs from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.

Sponsoring schools are Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211, Barrington Unit School District 220, Northwest Suburban High School District 214, St. Viator High School and Harper College.

District 211 Transition Services Coordinator Patrick Abraham said the event will include a panel discussion with representatives from four-year college and universities, community colleges, career training programs and Life Skills training programs. It will also host more than 50 representatives from various colleges and careers available to answer student and family questions, and explain the variety of options available.

"Students and families are surprised by the number of options available after high school as well as the programs and accommodations available to individuals with special needs pursuing postsecondary education and training," he said.
