Family events dominate Oak Brook Park District Autumn Fest

Oak Brook Park District's annual Oktoberfest is getting a new name and focus this season, but officials promise more fun for everyone.

The newly named Autumn Fest runs from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday in Central Park, 1450 Forest Gate Road, and features the traditional favorites of beer and a performance from Rock Academy.

New this year will be the Wagon N' Wine Tour through the park.

Spokeswoman Jessica Cannaday said the revamped festival was designed to meet requests from the community.

"The focus is more on the outdoor and family activities, whereas in the past it was more of a sports and soccer event. We're still having Two Brothers beer," Cannaday said. "The beer will still be there, but this year is definitely more about the music and the family activities."

The free activities include The Magic of Tony Venetico, the children's bounce house, pony rides, petting zoo, crafts table and the all new bubble obstacle course.

The new Wagon N' Wine Tour runs from 4 to 6 p.m. It costs $15 for residents and $19 for nonresidents and requires an online registration. Cannaday said the tour was added to capitalize on the popular Walk in the Park Wine Tour, which takes place early in the summer.

"All of the participants will have the opportunity to sample wine, and they'll get a full pour of their favorite wine to enjoy on a wagon ride around Central Park," she said.

Live music also remains an important part of the day. Fest staple Rock Academy is on from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Dixie Crush from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and 7th heaven from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
