Antioch takes second: At the Rockford Jefferson Invite, Antioch took second place with a 4-1 record.
The Sequoits lost to Pekin in the finals, 25-21, 18-25, 4-15.
Antioch defeated South Beloit (25-16, 25-6), Joliet Central (25-14, 25-22), Rockford Jefferson (25-14, 25-8) and Grayslake Central in the semifinals (25-21, 25-19).
Cenie Frieson had a team-high 54 kills and 15 aces for Antioch (9-2-1). Maiah Moll had 81 assists, Rachel Phillips added 16 kills, and Ayanna Tommy had 13 kills and a team-high 12 blocks. Hannah Benes and Sierra Sidlecki had 25 and 21 digs, respectively, for the Sequoits.
Rams finish third: Also at the Rockford Jefferson Invite, Grayslake Central defeated host Rockford Jefferson 25-22, 25-20 in the third-place game.
On the tournament, Taylor Hindman finished with a team-high 27 kills, while Cassidy Beshel had 22 kills and Elisa Koshy had 20 kills. Koshy, the setter, also had 50 assists and Abby Marassa had 40 digs.
Grayslake Central (13-8) went 3-2 in the tourney, picking up other wins over Janesville-Craig (25-20, 25-23) and Rockford Auburn (25-21, 25-22). The Rams lost to Pekin (25-21, 25-23) and Antioch (25-21, 25-19).
