Great teachers give more than grades, they lend a helping hand

Streamwood | Hilltop Elementary School students gave teachers an A-plus on their fundraising efforts to support local education and school activities.

Teachers from Hilltop Elementary School of Elgin Area School District U46, volunteered behind the counter on Thursday, September 6th, at the Streamwood McDonald's located on Irving Park Rd., where they served students and their families in a fundraiser.

This event is a fun,community-based fundraiser that invites Hilltop Elementary School students, staff and families to actively support their local school.

Mrs. Karina Rosa, English Language Learners Teacher, and Dr. Kyle Vonschnase, Principal of Hilltop Elementary School, each tended to the pie box during the event. Alongside Assistant Principal, Tiffany Robinson, and teachers Kelli Krautmann and Fatima Cisneros, who as a team sold over 240 Apple Pies. All pie sales go directly to the Hilltop PTO.

Twenty percent of the proceeds from the McTeacher's Night sales were donated directly to the Hilltop PTO, which plans to use the money to help pay for activities that further enrich students education.

"Each year I look forward to participating in McTeacher's Night with the Hilltop staff and seeing our students excitement when they are greeted by their teachers. At this event, we get to bring our school community together, share in each others company and reconnect with our students & families. It is an honor to be part of this loving and supportive community. In addition, I am grateful that Hilltop Elementary School has the supportive partnerships with our Hilltop PTO and the Bear Family Streamwood McDonald's." Hilltop Principal, Dr. Kyle Vonschnase said.

Hilltop PTO Board members Karla Burzynski and Nadia Garrett both agreed and said " this is such a great event to raise money for the school and bring the families together"

Marc Bear, Owner Operator of the Streamwood McDonald's, and the Bear Family were delighted to participate in the worthy cause for education and the community and are proud to serve the families of the Hilltop community through the McTeacher's Night event. In addition to helping provide financial support for the local schools, they help students feel connected to their school, their teachers and to feel a sense of community.

Bear donated a case of apple pies to the school to be sold at the event. Inspired by the success of McTeacher's Night, the Bear Family has set their sights on partnering with other schools in the area.
