HE Parks Partner AMITA Health Wins Partnership Award

The Hoffman Estates Park District (HE Parks) is proud to congratulate its partner AMITA Health in winning the "Best Friend of Illinois Parks" award in the Large Business category from the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD). The honor is awarded to a business or corporation that has demonstrated exemplary support to a local park district, forest preserve, conservation, recreation or special recreation agency. Awards are given in three subcategories, small (fewer than 100 employees), mid-sized (100 to 500 employees) and large business (more than 500 employees).

The park district nominated AMITA Health as the organization has been a generous contributor to HE Parks for the past nine years.

"Together we have provided enhanced, creative and beneficial programs for the park district's patrons," said Director of Community Relations Sara Odland-Beyna. "We are honored to receive this award."

AMITA Health is an award-winning health system committed to delivering compassionate care to more than 1.2 million residents in Chicago's western and northwestern suburbs. The third-largest health system in Illinois, AMITA Health includes nine hospitals, more than 80 clinics, and outpatient facilities, and an extensive physician provider network of more than 3,000 hospital-affiliated physicians.

"This award is well deserved, we are so grateful to AMITA Health," said HE Parks Executive Director Craig Talsma. "The growing partnership has allowed HE Parks to provide healthier programs, start new programs, maintain parks, bike trails, and fitness centers."

In 2018, AMITA Health increased its partnership to allow HE Parks to add trail signs in parks that will highlight the path routes and display the trail distances to encourage walking in the community.

A cooperative relationship is maintained with AMITA with regular meetings between HE Parks representatives and AMITA's Community Relations Representative. In the meetings, the organizations seek out ways that add value to the partnership. Some of the programs implemented over the years by the two organizations include:

STAR Power Play Grant - In 2017, AMITA helped HE Parks earn the IAPD PowerPlay Grant through their pledge to provide their "I am healthy" curriculum at STAR Before & After school program. AMITA Health provided speakers to address issues such as bullying.

Hoffman Walks - This free community walking program that was implemented in 2017 is being enhanced by AMITA in 2018 with additional funding that will provide signage at several of the most popular parks. The signage will provide a map of the path with the distances, and be displayed as "sponsored by AMITA Health."

Be Well Program - A six-month program that encouraged individuals to improve their health by offering health assessments and workshops.
