See police gear, vehicles and more at the Law Enforcement Exhibition Sept. 8-9 in Vernon Hills
More than two dozen police and related agencies will be on hand when Hawthorn Mall hosts the 14th annual Law Enforcement Exhibition Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8 and 9.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The exhibition allows the public to meet with representatives of local police departments and other agencies, and to get an up-close look at the latest in crime prevention, education and detection technology and techniques. Squad cars, motorcycles and Humvees will be on display and guests will get a chance to climb on or inside many of them. The event will also feature demonstrations of police equipment, police dogs, activities and giveaways. Representatives of Police Explorers youth groups will also be on hand.
The Deerfield Police Department will offer child safety seat checks from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, in the lower level parking lot near pole 23.
Police dog demonstrations are planned for both days, with Officer Ringham and Varro of the Wauconda Police Department at 1 p.m., Deputy Arrowood and Duke of the Lake County Sherrif's Office at 4 p.m. and Officer Ringham and Varro of the Wauconda Police Department at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Demonstrations with Officer Kroll and Titan of the Mundelein Police Department at 1 p.m. and Deputy Florenza and Dax of the Lake County Sherrif's Office at 4 p.m. on Sunday. All police dog demonstrations will be inside the mall in the lower level of Carson's court.
In addition to the vehicles and canine demonstrations, highlights of last year's event included tactical police gear, DUI goggles, an interactive fingerprint display and heat vision cameras.
