'Matilda,' 'An American in Paris' part of Drury Lane's 2019-20 season

The acclaimed musicals "Matilda" and "An American in Paris" will receive regional premieres at Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace as part of its 2019-20 season.

Drury Lane President Kyle DeSantis and Artistic Director William Osetek announced the lineup on Wednesday. The five-show season consists of:

• "Matilda" (April 26-June 23) - A supersmart British student endures her abusive family and a tyrannical school headmistress in this hit musical inspired by Roald Dahl's beloved 1988 children's book. This Tony and Olivier Award-winning 2010 adaptation by Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly was originally commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company.

• "And Then There Were None" (July 12-Sept. 1) - Agatha Christie's stage adaptation, based on her 1939 murder mystery, is about a disparate group of party guests who get bumped off one by one. It's also known by the title "Ten Little Indians."

• "The Color Purple" (Sept. 13-Nov. 3) - The hit 2005 Broadway musical adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel is about an African-American woman who triumphs over the abusive men in her life. The musical features a score by pop writers Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, plus a script by Marsha Norman.

• "Mary Poppins" (Nov. 15-Jan. 19) - "Downton Abbey" creator Julian Fellowes teamed up with songwriters George Stiles and Anthony Drewe in 2014 to adapt Disney's 1964 beloved film adaptation of P.L. Travers' books for the London stage. It's about a "practically perfect" nanny who helps a fractured British family.

• "An American in Paris" (Jan. 31-March 29) - Playwright Craig Lucas applied a more serious tone for this 2014 stage adaptation of the Academy Award-winning 1951 film, which featured Gershwin songs "I Got Rhythm," "S'wonderful" and "I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise."
