Schaumburg parks to host Kick-off to Oktoberfest Sept. 7

Another Septemberfest has come and gone in Schaumburg, and the Schaumburg Park District's Kick-off to Oktoberfest is right behind.

The district will host a traditional German beer garden from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road in Schaumburg.

Kick-off to Oktoberfest features music, pretzels, local craft beer and soda. Participants are invited to bring a picnic dinner for the family while enjoying backyard games, including sidewalk chalk activities and bag tosses.

"Oktoberfest officially begins in September, so we wanted to honor that tradition," said Patricia Kennedy, farm program coordinator. "Our beer garden events have been really popular and this is the perfect way to celebrate fall."

Last call is 7 p.m. The event runs rain or shine.

Registration is not required. Admission is $5 per person. For information, call (847) 985-2102 or visit parkfun.com.
