Prosecutors: Man ran over girlfriend with SUV outside Lombard mall
A DuPage County judge has ordered a Cicero man held without bail on allegations he tried to kill his girlfriend Monday by running her over with his SUV.
Jose Aguirre, 47, of the 1900 block of South 50th Avenue, is charged with the attempted first-degree murder of Yesenia Rodriguez and aggravated domestic battery.
Prosecutors said Aguirre located Rodriguez at 7:30 a.m. Monday outside Carson's in the Yorktown Mall parking lot and struck her with his 2003 Ford Expedition, causing injuries to her spine, hip bone and jaw bone.
She was run over with both the front and rear driver's-side tires before Aguirre fled the scene, prosecutors said.
A Lombard Police Department investigation led to Aguirre, who was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.
Through the investigation, authorities learned that Aguirre sent numerous threatening texts to Rodriguez, including, "You're going to die this week," "You'll pay for this and with blood" and "I'm going to kill you," prosecutors allege.
DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin wished Rodriguez a full and fast recovery.
"As for Mr. Aguirre, the man allegedly responsible for those injuries, it is my intention to bring the full force of the law in the case against him to ensure that, if convicted, he pays a significant price for his outrageous actions," Berlin said.
Aguirre's next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 20 with an arraignment in front of Judge Brian Telander.
