Meet Schaumburg's Septemberfest Court

The five members of Schaumburg's first Septemberfest Court no longer associated with the Miss Septemberfest competition of the past have been selected.

The five - four young ladies and one young man - will serve as the village's ambassadors to the public starting with the Labor Day weekend festival that kicks off Sept. 1. They'll be wearing Septemberfest golf shirts throughout the festival, with no emphasis on formalwear or appearance.

As with Miss Septemberfest, the winners of the scholarship competition were chosen on the basis of their knowledge of and involvement with the community. They are:

• Allison Bosshart, a senior at St. Viator High School who volunteers at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in the ultrasound department and is a LINK leader and school ambassador at school. She plans to pursue a degree in chemical engineering starting in the fall of 2019.

• Paris Burke, a senior at Conant High School who volunteers with Feed My Starving Children, District 54 Fun Fairs and Junior Cougars Wrestling. She plans to volunteer at Amita Health Alexian Brothers Center throughout her senior year, pursue pre-medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago and dreams of a career in pediatric oncology.

• Sarah Mathias, a senior at Hoffman Estates High School who volunteers at St. Alexius Medical Center, St. Hubert vacation Bible school and plays the violin as a JourneyCare Hospice music therapist. She plans to major in biology and double minor in music and Spanish, attend medical school and earn a residency in any type of surgery.

• Giselle Soares, a senior at Schaumburg High School who volunteers as a Northwestern University researcher, PADS and the Church of the Holy Spirit food pantry. She plans to earn a degree in chemical engineering from a four-year university.

• Dylan Toth, a recent graduate of Conant High and a freshman at Illinois State University who is a leader of the Youth Advisory Council through Kenneth Young Center, is working toward his Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts and was a nominee for youth volunteer of the year in Schaumburg last spring. He plans to study food and consumer health at ISU.
