Glenbrook North students featured in new YMCA art exhibit

As summer draws to a close, the North Suburban YMCA's Community Gallery will feature artists who are approaching the end of their high school careers. Seven students entering their senior year at Glenbrook North High School have assembled a collection of diverse pieces in a Young Artists show.

The public is welcome to view the exhibit beginning Aug. 5 at the YMCA, 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook.

Artists participating in the exhibit include Lydia Ahn, Zoe Bendoff, Michelle Gershkovich, Jeniah Griggs, Dorie Keck, Jackson Mayer, and Ruth Um, all Northbrook residents.

Each of the students have taken courses in the Glenbrook North art department and elsewhere, and several have had their work included in previous public shows and competitions. Their artwork spans a wide range of genres, from realistic landscapes and still life works to abstract and surrealist images. The show includes photography, acrylic painting, batik, digital imagery, and other media.

"I'm so excited that the YMCA gave the Glenbrook North art students an opportunity to display our work," said Michelle Gershkovich. "This show has talented artists with different visions! I encourage the community to come and see for themselves the innovation that GBN art students hold."

The North Suburban YMCA's Community Gallery presents monthly exhibits that showcase the talent of artists living in Chicago's northern suburbs. Many of the pieces are available for purchase, with a portion of proceeds benefiting visual arts programs at the YMCA.
