Schaumburg to Celebrate National Night Out August 7

The Village of Schaumburg is proud to announce its participation in the 35th Annual National Night Out event, a night where the public is encouraged to meet neighbors as well as some of Schaumburg's first responders and raise awareness about crime prevention and safety in the community.

This year's event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 with Schaumburg dignitaries, police and fire officials visiting with participants.

"National Night Out is a great informal way to meet your neighbors, support a safe community, and visit with some of the men and women who work together to serve the village," said Schaumburg Police Chief Jim Lamkin. "We enjoy the opportunity to mingle with residents in a positive setting and it's always a fun night for all who participate."

As part of the event, participants may receive a visit from village officials, police officers, Police K9 unit, or one of the Schaumburg fire trucks or ambulances.

The Schaumburg Barn will be hosting a free intergenerational event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Schaumburg area seniors & teens where the Schaumburg Barn Senior and Teen Programs will host activities for families. Attendees can enjoy pizza, ice-cream, and bingo. The event, which takes place at 231 S. Civic Dr. in Schaumburg, will also be attended by police and fire officials as well as the village's government officials. For more information, contact the Senior Barn/Teen Center at (847) 524-7496.

The public can also attend the free Schaumburg Park District event that will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 at Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way. Schaumburg Police Department officers will be on hand to visit with community members and provide information on crime and drug prevention. Attendees will also enjoy games, a D.J., contests and sidewalk chalk play. Open swim in Meineke Pool will be available from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Barbecued concessions and beverages will be available for attendees to purchase.
