Fire damages four Roselle apartments
Residents of four units at the Spring Hill Apartments on Roselle's east side were displaced by a fire Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Fire Chief Daniel Anderson said no one was injured, but one resident was treated for an unrelated medical matter at the scene.
Anderson said firefighters responded at 12:41 p.m. and, when they arrived four minutes later, saw light smoke billowing out of a third floor unit.
The fire was in a bathroom in a unit on the top floor, Anderson said, and was under control within 10 minutes.
"Fortunately, we stopped the fire before it spread to the roof," he said.
The fire caused serious damage to the unit where it started and to the one next door. Anderson said the bathrooms in both apartments shared a wall that had to be torn down to fight the fire. Two second-floor units directly below sustained water damage.
The Red Cross was on the scene Tuesday afternoon to help displaced tenants find temporary shelter.
Firefighters from Bloomingdale, Itasca, Schaumburg and Hanover Park assisted.
