Sharpen bike safety skills with Schaumburg Park District

Grab a bicycle and helmet and learn the rules of the road before cruising Schaumburg Park District's Safety Park.

Young cyclists ages 3 to 6 are invited to learn about bicycle safety during Sundays at Safety Park, set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., July 29. Children may bring their own bikes and helmets and ride around the park, located at 421 N. Springinsguth Road. Electric jeeps and big wheels also will be available for riding.

"This is an excellent opportunity to educate children about road safety and the proper way to maintain your bike, as well as general knowledge such as what to do at a train crossing and knowing when you should walk across a street and when you shouldn't," said Teresa Varco, early childhood coordinator. "These are things children hear from their parents, but when they can practice those skills in an actual little town on their level where they're in control, it can be a great learning experience."

Other upcoming Sundays at Safety Park include:

• 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Sept. 22
