Sky honoring Barrington woman for World War II service
Barrington resident Veronica Potter will be honored for her World War II military service at halftime of Sunday's Chicago Sky basketball game.
Potter will join other veterans in a recognition ceremony during the Sky's annual Hoops for Troops. The Sky hosts the Los Angeles Sparks at 5 p.m. at Wintrust Arena.
"Of course, I'm excited," said Potter, who lives at The Garlands senior complex in Barrington.
Potter, a former art teacher at Harper College in Palatine, served for the U.S. Marines in World War II. She was a member of the Marine Corps Women's Reserve reservists from 1944 to 1946.
She joined the Marines right out of high school. Created in 1943, the Marine Corps Women's Reserve specialized in areas such as parachute rigger, driver and aerial gunnery instructor.
The Garlands has promoted Potter's honor at the Sky game in its latest newsletter to residents.
