The driver of a vehicle racing at Sycamore Speedway has died after a crash late Friday night, the Kane County sheriff's department said Saturday in a news release.

Deputies responded to the Sycamore Speedway at 50W112 Old State Road in unincorporated Virgil Township about 11:20 p.m. to assist the Maple Park Fire Department with a report of a person trapped in a vehicle after a collision between two race cars during the Figure 8 event.

The driver, Timothy G. Erjavac, 47, of Morton Grove was extricated from his vehicle and taken to Kishwaukee Hospital DeKalb, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the release.

"The Sycamore Speedway Race Family sends their condolences and ask that everyone keeps Mr. Erjavac's family in their thoughts and prayers at this time," read an updated statement posted on the speedway's Facebook page Saturday afternoon.

No other people were reported injured in the crash. Because the crash occurred on private property during an organized event, deputies do not anticipate issuing any citations, according to the release.
