300 kids go fishin' at Mundelein Cops 'N' Bobbers event

The lake was stocked with sunfish, but participants were also hauling in bass, bluegills, crappies and catfish at the Mundelein Police Department's 21st Annual Cops 'N' Bobbers fishing derby for kids 5 to 13 Saturday at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake seminary.

Some bait was provided and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources provided some fishing poles for kids who did not have their own.

Around 300 young fishermen were able to fish with their parents and police officers. There were raffle drawing and prizes for the biggest fish, smallest fish and the most fish caught. The free event provided the first 100 kids with a free T-shirt.

Members of the Mundelein Fire Department, the Mundelein Police Explorers and the Citizens Alumni Academy helped with the event.
