Vernon Hills man detained, hospitalized after brief standoff Friday night

Vernon Hills police have detained a man who was yelling at neighbors, being chased by his mom down the street, and eventually caused a short standoff at a home on the 300 block of Tally Ho Drive Friday night, authorities said.

The man was not identified and is at the Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for examination, according to authorities.

Vernon Hills police released a statement Saturday regarding on the incident, which began at about 7 p.m. Friday. Police responded to the residence on Tally Ho and were told the man was intoxicated and saw what appeared to be blood throughout the home.

The man was uncooperative and ran out of the home, but saw police and ran back inside, locking himself in a bedroom and saying he had a knife and a gun.

Authorities called the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System to assist with traffic and to secure the area.

Police said they took the man into custody at about 10 p.m. and an ambulance took him to the hospital, where he remains.

No charges have been filed and the incident is under investigation, police said, adding no officers were injured.
