Sugar Grove Corn Boil needs help honoring first responders

In honor of first responders, the Sugar Grove Corn Boil wants to raise awareness, support, celebrate and simply say "thank you" to them.

As a special tribute to the men and women who risk their lives every day, the Corn Boil Committee is seeking those who would personally like to thank a first responder who was there for them in their time of need.

The committee asks that those with firsthand experience being helped by a first responder to email the Corn Boil at sgcornboil4media@gmail.com.

Every year, the committee looks to lending its voice to worthy causes. Every day, first responders put their lives on the line to ensure our safety.

They are everyday heroes that don't ask for special attention. They are fellow members of our communities; our neighbors, our friends, and members of our family.

The 51st annual Sugar Grove Corn Boil is in full planning mode. As the festival has grown from a community gathering to a four-day festival, preparation becomes more and more intense as opening day, Thursday, July 26, draws nearer.

This year, the Sugar Grove Fire Protection District will put on a car accident vehicle extrication demonstration from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29.

Vehicle extrication is the process of removing a vehicle from around a person who has been involved in a motor vehicle accident, when conventional means of exit are impossible or inadvisable.

Fire rescue personal use a delicate approach, as there are a variety of active systems within the vehicle, such as air bags, of which they need to be aware.

Using chocks and bracing for stabilization and hydraulic tools, including the "Jaws of Life," typically accomplish the operation.
