North Suburban YMCA Completes Parking Lot Reconstruction and Improvement Project
The North Suburban YMCA has finished the master phase of its $600,000+ reconstruction project to significantly improve and expand its parking lot. Following two months of construction, the new parking layout improves safety, drainage, and lighting, and increases the number of paved parking spaces by 15% for the hundreds of members and participants who visit the bustling community center every day. YMCA and community leaders celebrated the lot's completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 21.
The parking lot project is the largest and most visible of the projects under the Y's 50th Anniversary Capital and Capacity Building Campaign, which began quietly last year and is being officially launched this year. The campaign is designed to secure the requirements needed to meet the Y's new strategic initiatives, facility upgrades and expansion to better serve the community. The final phase of the lot, composed of the driveways, entrance and exit, will be completed at a later date.
"The new parking lot has been a longstanding goal that we are thrilled to achieve," noted Howard Schultz, NSYMCA Executive Director/CEO. "It was a massive undertaking, but it will make our Y more welcoming for every person and family who visits. It is especially meaningful to have this project completed as we get ready for our 50th anniversary community party on August 25. We are grateful to the generous donors who made it possible, and to the members and staff who were patient and supportive during the construction process."
