Mount Prospect hazardous waste collection event June 30
The Mount Prospect Public Works Department is hosting a special one-day household hazardous waste collection event from 8 a.m. to 2:#0 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at the public works facility, 1700 W. Central Road.
Residents can bring harsh chemical cleaners, paints, thinners, antifreeze, weed killers, insecticides and pesticides, and similar hazardous household products for collection.
Explosives, fireworks, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, agricultural chemicals and business wastes will not be accepted. A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items can be found at mountprospect.org/hhw.
"One of the most frequently asked questions we get from residents is how they can safely dispose of hazardous materials," said Public Works Director Sean Dorsey. "We are proud to offer a collection event that offers the most environmentally-friendly method possible to do so."
This special one-day event is only open to Mount Prospect residents and staff will be checking identification. A crowd is anticipated, which may result in long lines at the beginning of the event. Residents are encouraged to attend the event midmorning or afternoon.
