Mount Prospect Public Works Department to Host One-Day Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

The Village of Mount Prospect Public Works Department is hosting a special one-day Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Mount Prospect Public Works Facility, 1700 W. Central Road. Residents are asked to enter from westbound Central Road.

Residents can bring harsh chemical cleaners, paints, thinners, antifreeze, weed killers, insecticides and pesticides, and similar hazardous household products to the collection event. Explosives, fireworks, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, agricultural chemicals and business wastes will not be accepted.

A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items can be found at mountprospect.org/hhw.

"One of the most frequently asked questions we get from residents is how they can safely dispose of hazardous materials," said Public Works Director Sean Dorsey. "We are proud to offer a collection event that offers the most environmentally-friendly method possible to do so."

This special one-day event is only open to Mount Prospect residents and staff will be checking identification to ensure Mount Prospect residency. A crowd is anticipated, which may result in long lines at the beginning of the event. Residents are encouraged to attend the event mid-morning or afternoon.

For residents who are unable to participate in this collection event, there are long-term collection sites in Naperville and Rockford. These two locations are open each Saturday and Sunday to provide area residents with locations to take their household hazardous waste. For details, please see mountprospect.org/hhw.
