Help an adult learn English with Literacy Volunteers

If you are interested in helping an adult learn English, you will want to attend Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley's tutor training workshop at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

The four-session workshop will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, July 9-18.

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley helps adults learn English by matching them with volunteer tutors one to one.

Most of the adults have come from other countries to live in safety, to send their children to good schools, and to contribute to our economic well-being.

With a little bit of help, they can be more productive members of our community.

Volunteers who complete training will meet with one adult for one hour each week. Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley arranges convenient, comfortable, and safe public locations for tutoring.

From week to week, you will see your student get more comfortable and fluent in English and you will know you are making a big difference in their life. You will get guidance and support when you need it. Experienced tutors are glad to share what they have learned. You do not need to know a second language or be a professional teacher to make a difference.
