Hawthorn students go back in time at Decades Fair

Eighth-grade students took a walk down memory lane at the Decades Fair hosted by teachers Kathryn Balmes and Kyle McKenzie at the Hawthorn Middle School North library.

Students at the Vernon Hills school were asked to research a decade of American society from the 1950s up to today. In their presentations, the students addressed two objectives: to understand the changes in contemporary American society and to understand how significant events impact society.

All students had to research the civil rights movement in their decade, major political policies and key events of the time period.

It was clear that the students went the extra mile to present detailed and fun projects.
