Island Lake man in critical condition after Wauconda Township crash

A 51-year-old Island Lake man suffered life-threatening injuries from a single-vehicle crash Thursday night in Wauconda Township, authorities say.

The man was driving a 2018 Subaru WRX north on West Brown Road near West Ivanhoe Road when he failed to turn at a curve, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. His vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, authorities said.

Firefighters removed the entrapped man from the vehicle and took him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries, authorities said.

Crash investigators are working to determine whether speed, alcohol or illegal substances were contributing factors to the crash.
