West Chicago adds warning siren

West Chicago has installed a new outdoor warning siren at Lift Station No. 15 on the 600 block of Shingle Oak Drive thanks to a $9,368 Powering Safe Community grant from ComEd and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus.

At almost 15 square miles, the city needed additional coverage for its outdoor warning system. The area near the life station includes an elementary school, park district facilities, houses and businesses.

The siren will enable the city to alert residents to emergency situation, including tornadoes, flash floods and other severe weather. The system will provide advanced warning to those outdoors to seek shelter by issuing a tone.
