Traffic Controller Replacement at Rand Road, Route 83 and Kensington Road - June 3

On Sunday June 3, 2018, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be replacing the traffic controller at the intersection of Rand Road, Route 83 and Kensington Road in the Village of Mount Prospect.

The traffic controller, which runs the signal timing, will have new, modern equipment to better handle the operations at this complex intersection. This will allow IDOT the ability to move traffic more efficiently and safely through the intersection. It will also provide the capability to install pedestrian crossing signals at the intersection later this summer.

Work is expected to begin at 5:00am on Sunday morning. It will take the contractor approximately five hours to replace the traffic controller. The traffic signals will be dark and non-operational during this time.

The Mount Prospect Police Department will provide traffic control at the intersection while the traffic signals are dark. Work is anticipated to be completed by 10:00am.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes during this five-hour period on Sunday morning. If it is necessary to travel through the intersection, please exercise caution and follow the direction of the police officers.
