Hanover Park launching $1.6 million village hall upgrade

A nearly $1.6 million renovation of Hanover Park's village hall and finance department is the next step in an effort to incrementally update services for resident, Deputy Village Manager David Webb said.

The renovation will include an expansion of the village hall lobby, construction of a new entry canopy, reconfiguration of finance department spaces and new finishes. Work will begin June 25, according to Dan Rosenberg, the project manager with Leopardo Companies, Inc.

"We're bringing the village up to date," Webb said.

The work is the latest in a series of facility upgrades by the village. The police department opened a new headquarters in 2013, while the inspectional services and community development divisions have been renovated within the past two to three years, according to Webb.

A need for better counter space was cited as an essential aspect of the finance department upgrade.

"We hope to improve the efficiency of our customer service with the remodel of our finance department," Webb said.

The project budget was approved by the village board last year. Funding for the project is coming out of the village's capital projects fund, which is financed by residents' tax dollars, according to Webb.

The renovations are scheduled to be complete by December. During the work, visitors to village hall will have to enter through side entrances, as the main entrance and most of the lobby area will be closed. The finance department will be relocated to the police department community room, next door to village hall.

"The outcome will be marvelous," Mayor Rod Craig said.
