Small plane down west of Schaumburg Airport; pilot OK

A small plane crashed Friday night west of the Schaumburg Airport, but the pilot has been reported to be OK, with no passengers on board, according to Hanover Park firefighters.

Firefighters said they were called to the scene of a possible plane crash at 8:51 p.m. Friday in the area of Longmeadow Lane and Walnut Avenue in Hanover Park.

Fireghters said there was one person on the plane. That man, who was found conscious and breathing, was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center and is stable.

A search was made in the area, but no other victims were found.

Firefighters said the plane was found in a field that is the property of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.

The FAA is investigating.

Firefighters said there was damage to the plane, which remains where it landed, but no fire.

Schaumburg police said the plane went down in a field just west of the regional airport, ABC 7 reported, and they said the pilot was not injured, police said.

ABC 7 reported Illinois State Police are investigating with assistance from Schaumburg police and Hanover Park police, and the Federal Aviation Authority is also investigating.
