Carnival helps celebrate Hispanic culture

Friday was the 15th annual La Kermes, a Latin American carnival at Hawthorn School of Dual Language in Vernon Hills.

Kids and parents enjoyed a night of food, games and music as they celebrated Hispanic culture.

"It's a festival celebrating children and family. It's a way to bring families together across the district," said principal Dr. James Tohme.

Volunteers brought in different Hispanic cuisine that was sold to benefit the school.

The Mariachi band Real San Luis from Chicago entertained people with traditional Mexican songs as people ate dinner.

The night also featured carnival games and a raffle.
