Naperville man charged in Lisle armed robbery

A 19-year-old Naperville man faces felony charges in connection with an armed robbery Sunday in the parking lot of a Lisle fast food restaurant.

Laurynas Jonaitis has been charged with armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to the DuPage County jail to await a bond hearing.

Lisle police said they responded about 7:30 p.m. Sunday to the report of a shooting in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant on the 1000 block of Maple Avenue. No one was injured during the shooting and the offender had run in a southwest direction from the scene.

Officers interviewed the victims at the scene and determined that a man and his girlfriend were attempting a drug deal when Jonaitis allegedly pulled out an handgun and demanded their drugs, money, and cellphones.

During a physical struggle, Jonaitis fired one round from the handgun before running from the scene, police said. No one was struck by the bullet, which lodged in the front driver's side door.

Lisle police said an extensive investigation was conducted to determine Jonaitis' identity and whereabouts. He was located and taken into custody after a Tuesday afternoon traffic stop on Hobson Road, just east of College Road.
