Learn About Village Services at Schaumburg's Engineering & Public Works Open House on May 19

The Village of Schaumburg invites the public to attend its Engineering & Public Works Open House that will be held on Saturday, May 19.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Engineering & Public Works, 714 S. Plum Grove Road, Schaumburg. The event is free and open to all ages.

Participants will be offered a unique experience that allows residents and children to get a behind-the-scenes look at what skills, tools and equipment are required to maintain the village's infrastructure. The event will include touch-a-truck, equipment displays, informational booths, demonstrations, free giveaways, snacks and more.

New this year will be an opportunity to "Load the Loader." The Village of Schaumburg is partnering with the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry and is asking those attending the open house to bring nonperishable items that can be donated to benefit the community. Items the pantry are most in need of include, but are not limited to the following: cereal, juice, baby wipes, boxed dry pasta and rice, boxed or canned potatoes, canned vegetables, soups, pancake mix and syrup, baking products, condiments, paper products, and laundry and dish soap.

The event will also recognize the winners of the Engineering & Public Works drawing contest where Schaumburg residents enrolled in kindergarten through eighth grade drew pictures of "what Public Works means to them." Entries were judged by grade group and the following winners were announced: Ellie Wyrwicki, age 6, and Ian Glenn, age 8. The students will also be honored at an upcoming Village Board meeting.
