Boys tennis: Barrington completes run to West title
Barrington boys tennis program wrapped up a sixth consecutive Mid-Suburban West title Monday afternoon by defeating Conant 5-2 in Hoffman Estates.
The win kept the Broncos' record perfect (5-0-0) in the division, while dropping the hosts to 4-1-0 overall.
"Today was a very good team win," said Barrington coach John Roncone, whose club will enter the MSL tournament this weekend as the favorite over Conant and MSL East champion Hersey. "The guys did a nice job of closing games out against Dave Koleno's team, which has a lot of quality, including a very good No. 1 doubles team."
The Broncos went 2-1 at singles, with Bradley Yu and Ammar Wazir winning in straight sets. Roncone's teams at doubles were three out of four, dropping a 6-4, 6-4 match at No. 1 to Conant's formidable Niko Rosas/Kahaan Motwani.
"We came in here today hoping Niko and Kahaan could get a win off of Barrington's No. 1, (so) that was a big win for those guys," said Koleno.
"Niko is a difference maker, and as hard as we tried to stay away from him, he always seemed to be there to finish off big points," said Roncone.
Barrington will be after a sixth straight overall MSL championship. Hoffman Estates will be the host venue this year.
