Schaumburg Church Burns Mortgage to celebrate 60th Anniversary

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Schaumburg turned 60 last week with lots to celebrate.

Aside from marking the milestone in time, the church was also able to pay off its mortgage. In March, church members had voted to retire the church's debt, after condcuting an earlier campaign to renew the finances of the church.

"The payoff of the mortgage is renewal for our finances," said Pastor Peter Hellstedt. "$52,000 per year in debt reduction is now freed up to become resources for ministry."

Church members recognized the success in between services on Sunday, April 29, by going outside to burn the church's mortgage in a celebratory fashion.

Pastor Curt Gerald, who served as pastor at the church from 1976-1988, was on hand to join in the celebration.

Prince of Peace is now planning for facilities renovations as looks further into the future.

Prince of Peace Luthern Churuch is located at 930 W. Higgins Road, Schuamburg. For more information about the church, please visit Princeofpeace.net
